Truffles: The Most Expensive Food in the World

Truffles are very rare, has a high selling price. This fungus grows under the ground near the roots of trees. Although expensive, these truffles are always sought after and consumed a lot of people.

Mushrooms that grow wild have a thick outer shell and soft, the texture becomes coarse and sometimes has two colors, black and white depending on its type. All types of mushrooms truffel have a high selling price because of the difficulty of planting and harvest time.

CBS News who covered the 'The Most Expensive Food in the World' aired on January 8, 2012, with correspondent Lesley Stahl and Ira Rosen, as a producer. Broadcast about black truffles from France, known as black diamonds. This fungus is purchased at high prices to hundreds of dollars by a restaurant in France. White truffles from Italy sold more than tripled.
